Leo's autopsy pictures
I had Leo put to sleep on a Sunday so it was yet another DIY post mortem... And for the first time I was really opposed to doing a post mortem. I guess Leo had been ill for so long that I didn't want to cut his body. But then we did a very superficial post mortem. I actually cut him open, in my quest to get over fears. I did well. His pancreas was riddled with growths, it was maybe partly hyperplasia and partly insulinoma. If it had all been insulinomas (tumours) then surely he wouldn't have still been alive. I think there was something on his liver. And we found a growth by his large intestine (?). This must have been the thing that caused him so much pain when defecating as he always moaned when he went to the toilet. The fat in his abdomen was overwhelming and I couldn't be bothered to look for his kidneys let alone adrenal glands. Part of me now wishes I had done a more thorough examination and also sent some tissues off. But at the time the whole thing caused me so much grief that I couldn't rummage through his abdomen.
